How to install a centrifugal fan?

Installation Process of Large High-Pressure Centrifugal Ventilator

Upon arrival of the fan, all parts should be inspected for damage or missing components. Some mating parts have been pre-assembled in the workshop, marked for mating before disassembly, and packaged for transportation. Other parts are shipped as complete sets, including the impeller set, transmission set, and inlet regulating door.

All of the following special precautions were noted and followed during installation:

  • Some setup and alignment dimensions during installation should be recorded on the inspection report.
  • (Note: Seal all flange connections with 3 mm thick fiberglass tape.)
  • If the connection flanges are not aligned during installation, do not force them to straighten as this will affect the setting. A thorough inspection should be carried out before using the extension hole method as this can cause deformation of the components during both transportation and installation.
  • (It is recommended that ladders, guardrails, and galleries be installed prior to the installation of fan equipment for ease of movement and safe construction.)

01. Storage and Custody of Components

Precautionary measures should be taken during packing and loading/unloading of wind turbine components to ensure that the goods arrive safely at the site. Careless handling during transportation, loading and unloading, and installation can lead to serious damage to the goods, so great care must be taken during these operations.

The following precautions must be observed:

  1. All parts should be stored on sleepers and well-ventilated.
  2. Impeller sets, main shafts, bearings, and all loose parts, i.e., bolts, nuts, and gauges, must be stored under an isolation cover.
  3. The use of slings on the surface of the shaft should be avoided when handling the shaft, and scratches and bruises on the surface of the shaft must be prevented.
  4. Arrangement of slings on both sides of the shaft to equalize the load is necessary to lift the group of components, and the use of pads prevents damage to the shaft by the slings.
  5. Do not use the wheel cover, wheel disk, or blades as the support of the impeller. When the impeller set is placed with the periphery as the fulcrum, the weight is borne by the wheel cover and wheel disk. After the impeller set is mounted on the main shaft, the rotor set cannot use the periphery of the impeller as a fulcrum, and a suitable main shaft bracket should be used.
  6. The fan casing set and air inlet are lifted by lugs or rigging. The rigging is attached to the flange holes.
  7. The bearing housing can be lifted by the eyebolts attached to it or by the hook. The bearings are sealed before shipment, and when dismantling is required for on-site installation, the bearings must be well protected against damage during the entire installation process.

Mounting of the housing unit
Due to its large size, the housing unit is divided into sections, all of which are equipped with flanges for bolting.
(1) The assembled housing set consists of removable parts and bolted reinforcement. It is recommended that the removable parts be installed temporarily to avoid deformation during installation.
(2) Lift up the housing unit, put in the shims and adjust the housing unit until its side panels are vertical. Adjust the pads and attached shims to make the housing unit level. Loosen the bolts on the removable part of the housing unit and move it out of the way for installation of the impeller set.
(Note: It is also possible to lift each part of the housing unit into place one by one and bolt them together.)
Do not tighten the foot bolts or grout the bottom of the casing unit at this stage.
